JhalAI ("the app") is an offline-first study and quiz app with document scanning, OCR, and AI-generated quizzes. This page explains what data the app collects, why, and who it's shared with.

Information we collect

• Device identifier. The app sends your device's Android ID to our server to track your daily free quiz-generation quota. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account — the app has no sign-up or login.
• Study content, for quiz generation only. Documents you scan are processed on your device (OCR). To generate a quiz, the extracted text and/or page images are sent to our server and then to the third-party AI providers listed below so they can write the questions. This content is not stored on our servers — our database only ever logs metadata (timestamp, language, image count, which AI model responded, response time) for reliability monitoring, never the document text, OCR output, or images themselves.
• Advertising data. The app shows ads via Google AdMob, which may collect your advertising ID and ad interaction data. Where required (EEA/UK, applicable US states), ad personalization consent is collected and managed through Google's User Messaging Platform — reachable any time from Settings → Ad preferences.
• Local data. Your scanned documents, extracted text, and quiz history are stored only on your own device and are not uploaded to our servers except transiently as described above.

Third-party services

• Google AdMob — ad delivery and, with consent, ad personalization.
• Groq, OpenRouter, and Google (Gemini) — AI providers used to generate quiz questions from your document text/images.
• Cloudflare — hosts our backend (Workers, D1, KV).

Each provider handles data it receives under its own privacy policy; we don't control their retention beyond what's needed to serve the request.

Children's privacy

JhalAI is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us at the address below and we'll remove it.

Your choices

• Uninstalling the app removes all local data (documents, OCR text, quiz history) immediately.
• The anonymous device-quota record (Android ID + points balance) may persist on our server until you request its deletion — email us.
• Ad consent choices can be changed anytime from Settings → Ad preferences.

Changes to this policy

We'll update the "Last updated" date above whenever this policy changes materially.
